The Northland Hockey Group Selects is an opportunity for kids playing on a Northland Hockey Group AAA team to take their game to an even higher level. Players are chosen by their coach and NHG committee that stand out amongst their peers to represent either the North or South to compete in the Selects weekend slated for July 27, 28, 29 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

Players will be given a NHG select jersey and play in two game series with a skills competition in between the games. In 2011, the skills competition included speed, hardest shot, accuracy and "last man" standing shootout. Teams will also have a practice on Friday evening to get lines set and introduce the players to each other. In 2011, 61 different hockey associations were represented from five different states and one province.

NHG Selects Weekend 2011

The first annual NHG selects weekend was a success. Players were chosen from all of our 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 teams except the 2000 Gulls who elected not to participate. Players were chosen from the top NHG players at the Northland Hockey Festival and the Mountain Dew Blast. Some players from the Alexandria Blizzard helped fill some spots at the 2000 level.

The Pike, Loons, Blast, and Gulls were the North Team. The Solar Bears, Renegades, Lakers, and Ice Bucks were the South Team.

An amazing 61 hockey associations from five states and one Canadian province were represented in the tournament.
